Amazon price errors: what the data really says
"Price errors" — products that briefly collapse far below their real value — are the stuff of legend among deal hunters. But how common are they really, and how much do you save? Instead of anecdotes, we looked at our data: Glitchoo tracks six Amazon marketplaces in real time. Here's the picture.
How long a price error really lives
The number nobody else measures. We tracked every detected error against its own price history: among those that "bounce back" (the price recovers), the median lifetime is about 48 hours. 40% die within 24 hours, but only 2% vanish within 6 — the legend of glitches lasting "a few minutes" is just that, a legend. There is time to catch them, if you know they exist.
💡 The most surprising finding: one anomalous price drop in two (51.5%) never recovers. It's not a temporary glitch but a silent long-term markdown — the seller simply dropped the price without announcing it.
When errors are born
Distribution of the 1,533 intercepted errors by day of the week. Saturday is peak day; the hottest hour is around 16:00 CET — when automated repricers react to weekend updates.
An error discounts twice as deep as a normal promo
The average price-error discount is 67.1%, versus 28.8% for an ordinary promotion — on average more than double.
Extreme errors are rare (as they should be)
Most cluster in the −60/70% band. Going higher is rare: only 3 of 574 products exceed −90%. True "shock" errors are unicorns — and they last minutes.
Where they happen most
Active errors per 1,000 monitored products, by marketplace. In Spain 1 in 38 products carries a price error; in the UK just 1 in 90 — nearly a threefold gap.
The biggest catch
The single largest error intercepted so far: a Lefant M5Pro robot vacuum that went from 1.700 € to 500 € on amazon.fr — a 1.200 € gap (−71%).
🌍 Bonus finding: errors propagate across countries. The very same brand as the catch above hit price errors on four marketplaces at once (DE, IT, ES, FR) — when a central price list goes wrong, it goes wrong everywhere.
Where they strike: price bands
Contrary to the myth of €1,000 TVs at €100, most errors hit everyday products: the most affected band is €50–100.
Which categories get it wrong most
Electronics and fashion fight for the top spot, followed by beauty and video games.

Methodology
We define a "price error" as a published, active product discounted ≥60% off the Amazon list price, excluding refurbished and used products, detected by our continuous monitoring (over 2.0 million price checks). Figures are a 07/2026 snapshot across 32,270 products in the six marketplaces we cover (IT, DE, ES, FR, UK, US); the time series covers 35 days (30 May – 4 July 2026, 1,533 errors). An error's "lifetime" is measured on price history: from detection to the first price recorded more than 15% above the error price, on a sample of 700 errors observed for at least 72 hours (295 with a measured recovery). "Savings intercepted" sums the list-price / current-price differences on euro markets.
